I am from the community, for the community, understand the community and have kids that are in the community.
As a native of the district, I have spent my entire life around the schools in our community. First as a student, then as a volunteer, coach, teacher, parent, and advocate. Like you, I care deeply about the future of San Diego’s children. I believe the fate of our region rests on making sure every child in every neighborhood has access to the high-quality education they deserve.
I am running for San Diego Unified School Board to get results for our kids. As a school trustee, I will fight for:
- Equitable educational opportunities.
- Increased parent and community engagement.
- Programs that prepare students for college and a 21st century global economy.
- Guaranteed admission to California State Universities for students meeting academic requirements.
- Apprenticeship and internship opportunities for students.
As a college professor at SDSU, I understand what it takes to make sure children are ready for four-year universities. As district director for the California Assembly, I have the education policy knowledge to work for equity for students all across San Diego and to fight for our fair share from Sacramento. As a parent, I understand the frustrations of a persisting achievement gap, a never-ending shortage of quality teachers, and a bureaucracy that is unresponsive to the issues at hand.
Over the past few years we have seen the school district shift its focus away from the needs of students. As a result, our schools are at a crossroad. We can do right by our kids by putting people on the board who are honest, ethical and accountable. I will bring my experience as an educator, policy expert, and community representative to this role to effect change for our children and neighborhoods.
It would be an honor to put my experience and passion to work on behalf of San Diego’s children.
